Film Review Precious Plum - 1535 Words

When people think of parodies, they think of music videos, movies, and skits that are made for the purpose of making fun of an existing music video, movie, or skit that was created under a serious context. The definition of parody is â€Å"the imitation of an artist, writer, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comedic effect.† Parodies are all very different in content, but the basic formula to make one is the same and all parodies aim to have the same goal: to make people laugh. In video parodies, there is always a subject taken to poke fun at, specific video editing similar to the original video, and characters that play over-exaggerated and often ridiculous caricatures of their original counterparts. For a website like College Humor, that produces watchable internet content, such as parodies of popular television shows, this means creating a show called â€Å"Precious Plum† based off of the hit-television show â€Å"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo†. The show â€Å"Precious Plum† created by College Humor was posted to YouTube in 2013 as a thirteen-part video series that aimed to make fun of a popular show called â€Å"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.† In the original series â€Å"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,† the reality show follows the life of a young girl whose mother entered her into the pageant life. The spin-off show aired on TLC and was a more personal story of the life of one of the young girls who participated in the â€Å"Toddlers and Tiaras† series. Lizard People free essay sample

Independence Day in Los Angeles. Its approximate location was at what is now the Hollywood Freeway near the intersection of North Hill Street and West Cesar Chavez Avenue, downtown. The hill was located one block north of Temple Street and a short distance south of present day Cesar Chavez Avenue, between the Los Angeles Civic Center and Chinatown. A small portion of the hill was not bulldozed and remains on the west side of Hill Street on the north side of the freeway. Part of Fort Moore Hill became home to a cemetery, with the first documented burial tracing back to December 19, 1853. Alternately known as Los Angeles City Cemetery, Protestant Cemetery, Fort Moore Hill Cemetery, Fort Hill Cemetery, or simply the cemetery on the hill, it was the citys first non-Catholic cemetery. In 1891, the site became home to the second location of Los Angeles High School (LAHS), located on North Hill Street between Sand Street (later California Street, now part of 101 Freeway) and Bellevue Avenue (later Sunset Boulevard, now Cesar Chavez Avenue). We will write a custom essay sample on Lizard People or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page LAHS was at this location on Fort Moore Hill until 1917, when the high school was moved again. Most of Fort Moore Hill was removed in 1949 for the construction of the Hollywood Freeway, which was opened in December 1950, and in 1957 a memorial for the old fort and its American pioneers was placed on a site north of the freeway. The fort is now memorialized by the Fort Moore Pioneer Memorial. According to a G. Warren Shufelt, a geophysicist mining engineer deep beneath the heart of Los Angeles financial district (Fort Moore Hill) hundreds of feet below corporate offices, and government offices lies another city. Beneath Los Angeles Downtown area stands a lost city of catacombs filled with treasure and records. A Hopi chief named Little Green told Warren Shufult that the vanished races capital was located in modern day Downtown Los Angeles. This city derived from an Indian legend that an underground world was built by a strange race that vanished 5000 years ago. This race is commonly referred to as the Lizard People or Lizard men. Warren Shufult first heard of the Lizard people in the city of a Hopi Indian legend. Legend is that they were a race who had been nearly wiped out by a meteor shower around 3000 BC. The lizard people then constructed 13 subterranean settlements along the Pacific Coast. This was done to shelter themselves against future detriments. Each subterranean settlement is what we call in modern times a city, in which was divided to house a thousand families each. They also stockpiled essentials of life to maintain. So greatly advanced scientifically the Lizard people developed a chemical solution that melted solid bedrock to bore out the tunnels and rooms of their subsurface shelters. This was done without removing any earth and rock. They also developed a cement tar stronger than any in use in modern times which they lined their tunnels and rooms. These tunnels were also constructed to hold a profusion of gold tablets that chronicled the history of their existence, the origin of mankind, and the story of the world back to creation. The Lizard people according to Little Chief Greenleaf of the medicine lodge of the Hopi Indians in Arizona, were of a much higher type of intellectually than modern human beings. The intellectual accomplishments of their 9 year old children were equal of those of present day college graduates. According to the reporter Jean Bosquet of the Los Angeles Times in 1934, Warren Shufelt began o drive a shaft 250 feet into the ground on North Hill Street, overlooking Sunset Boulevard, Spring Street and North Broadway. Warren Shufelt engineered a radio x- ray for detecting the presence of minerals and tunnels below the surface of the ground. This was an apparatus with which he says that he has traced a pattern of catacombs and vaults forming a lost city. The radio device consisted of a cylindrical glass case with a plummet attached to a copper wire.

Toastmaster Speech free essay sample

How many of you consider fitness and important part of your life? What fitness activity do you enjoy? Good afternoon fellow toastmasters and guests, today for my speech I would like to talk to you about what is fitness for me and why do I consider it an important part of any person’s life. Let me start by saying that for me fitness is not an activity that you have to do because you are overweight and you want to look good. I grew up with this misconception, In my country, every time you feel that you are gaining weight you join a gym for a month, do lots of cardio activity so you lose the extra weight and then go back to a yoyo diet and a sedentary life and stay in it as long as you’re looking good. I mentioned this to one of my fitness friends and she said, â€Å"I would never imagine that! Every time I watch miss Universe the most beautiful figures are Latinas, you will imagine they are constantly working out† I said, well â€Å"These ladies would work out very hard and diet to be very good for the event but that’s not something constant in their lives, many of them will just visit a plastic surgeon to help them reach their goals† Now that I better understand what fitness is all about, for me, fitness means being able to perform a constant physical activity that helps me to have the energy and strength to feel as good as possible. We will write a custom essay sample on Toastmaster Speech or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The weight control is just one more of the added benefits. You dont have to be an athlete to be fit. You don’t have to run for an hour every day. All you need to do is become more active so that you feel better. Improving your fitness is good for your heart, lungs, bones, muscles, and joints. And it lowers your risk for  diseases such as heart attack,  diabetes,  high blood pressure, and even cancer. Being more fit also can help you to  maintain a healthy weight, sleep  better, handle  stress  better, and keep your mind sharp. Fitness also allows you to keep a more positive attitude towards dreams and goals. People who reach goals with regular success are sometimes more mentally fit, sometimes more physically fit. But theyre always at least one or the other, usually both. They know the real advantages that Fitness produces. Most goals require concentration and ongoing peak mental performance. A sluggish mind can hold you back. On the flip side, improved mental skills help you learn faster and create new ideas for future plans. A strong mind sees connections you didnt know were there before, it remembers mistakes, and has clearer insights into your life. Think of it this way: like your body, your brain needs to be fed and exercised to perform well Fitness has one more, vitally important role it helps determine your attitude. Your attitude can spell success or failure. Like Henry Ford said If you think you can do or cant do something, youre right. Optimists generally reach more goals faster than pessimists. And positive thinkers attract positive people I would like to give you 5 tips that can help you to step towards becoming more physically active. * Make physical activity part of your regular day,  just like brushing your  teeth  or going to work. * Use the stairs more often, walk to do errands near your home, Bike to work at least once a week. * Start walking. Walking is a great fitness activity. To keep up a routine, you can walk with family, friends or pets. * Schedule your activity  for times that youre likely to keep doing it. If you dont have time for one 30-minute walk, break it up into three 10-minute walks. * Find a partner or consider joining a gym or sport club. This can make exercising more fun, there are many choices there so try to find one that you enjoy and mix it up so you don’t get bored. * Set small, realistic goals  to improve your fitness. Making small changes in your daily lifestyle helps you improve your fitness. To conclude I would like to say theres no need to build your own obstacles. You have enough challenges to meet without handicapping yourself by ignoring Fitness. Besides the obvious health risks and damage to your life expectancy. Every day, you have a choice: to stand still and let others choose your future, or to have the courage to take action. Rewrite your story, and redefine what you thought you were capable of. Small changes can produce big changes in the way you feel. To stay confident, stay optimistic, set realistic goals, see the possibilities, not the problems and dont forget to celebrate! Enjoy what youve done and be proud of your accomplishments.
